It is estimated that about 7 million emigrated from Ireland in the 19th century. Of course, the true number is difficult to ascertain as many may have moved to the UK and as Ireland was part of the UK it is impossible to know exactly how many left Ireland.
The main destinations were Australia, USA and Canada. Between 1841 and 1851 North America was the most popular destination.
Of course Cass families and individuals were no exception as many of them emigrated to the above named destinations. On the following pages, you will find details of Irish born Casses who left Ireland in the 19th century. I’ve divided them by country of destination.
